It is the policy of this company to provide safe and healthful working conditions for our employees. To accomplish, this, Management will take the necessary steps to establish appropriate safety activity to provide, to the greatest extent possible, a safe work environment and to promote safe work practices designed to avoid injury from hazards which cannot be eliminated or safeguarded. In implementing this activity, it is the intent of Management to comply with all applicable laws and ordinances having jurisdiction in the area where our work is being carried out.
Because accidents can cause suffering of financial loss, accident prevention shall be an integral part of all operations. Each job, each operation and each activity shall always be planned with the idea of completing it without injury to employees or property damage.
Overall safety activity is directed and coordinated by the Safety Director, who reports to the Vice President- General Counsel. The Safety Department works with the Superintendents and Foremen to establish appropriate procedures on each job for the control of conditions and practices which may cause personal injury and property damage. The job Superintendents and Foremen are directly responsible for accident prevention on their jobs. They are the key personnel in the accident prevention program and their active participation in job site safety activity is a must.
On the job safety requires the establishment of two basic conditions: a safe work environment and an attitude on the part of employees that will result in safe work practices and conduct.
A safe work environment can be established and maintained by eliminating of safeguarding all recognized hazards wherever reasonably possible.
Safe work practices can be developed by an awareness of and an interest in safety. A concentrated effort by all to develop good work habits and attitudes will result in accident free work performance. Safety promotional activities will be conducted on a routine basis at all job sites to help develop these habits and attitudes.
